💛 Happy International Mother Tongue Day! 💛
❓Did you know that there are 6,500 languages in the world ❓
❓Or that a language disappears and dies every two weeks❓
👉International Mother Language Day was proclaimed by the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in November 1999 and is celebrated every year on the 21st of February.
It aims to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism.
💯Multilingual and multicultural societies exist through their languages which transmit and preserve traditional knowledge and cultures in a sustainable way.
🙏This year’s observance is a call on policymakers, educators and teachers, parents and families to scale up their commitment to multilingual education, and inclusion in education to advance education recovery in the context of COVID-19.
💯Emphasys Centre acknowledges the importance of multilingualism and celebrates the use of different languages for communication between staff, students, and external partners.
