๐ Happy International Mother Tongue Day! ๐
โDid you know that there are 6,500 languages in the world โ
โOr that a language disappears and dies every two weeksโ
๐International Mother Language Day was proclaimed by the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in November 1999 and is celebrated every year on the 21st of February.
It aims to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism.
๐ฏMultilingual and multicultural societies exist through their languages which transmit and preserve traditional knowledge and cultures in a sustainable way.
๐This yearโs observance is a call on policymakers, educators and teachers, parents and families to scale up their commitment to multilingual education, and inclusion in education to advance education recovery in the context of COVID-19.
๐ฏEmphasys Centre acknowledges the importance of multilingualism and celebrates the use of different languages for communication between staff, students, and external partners.
