🌍 From cultural history to hands-on heritage activities, the KA1 Exploring Cyprus: A Journey Through Culture and Heritage. 📚 Between the 21st-26th of October 2024 the participants explored the island’s landmarks, unique traditions, and ancient heritage through a combination of interactive and educational experiences.
💪 Course Highlights included:
- Cultural and Historical Landmarks: Visits to Paphos—home to Petra tou Romiou (Aphrodite’s Rock), the Tombs of the Kings, Paphos Castle, and vibrant Paphos mosaics—gave participants a window into Cyprus’s rich history and mythological roots.
- Wine and Culinary Traditions: Participants explored Omodos Village, famous for its wine routes and the Monastery of the Holy Cross, sampling local wines and enjoying a traditional Cypriot meal. They learned how Cyprus’s geographic position has influenced its food culture and tasted its renowned Commandaria wine.
- Nature and Biodiversity: In the Troodos Mountains, visits to the Amiantos Botanical Garden and Kyperounda Village showcased Cyprus’s diverse flora and mountain life, complemented by a peaceful stop at Timios Prodromos Monastery.
- Cultural Concepts and Identities: A dedicated session on European identities fostered discussions about shared and unique cultural aspects, while an activity comparing traditions and customs sparked lively conversations on what unites and distinguishes European communities.
- Hands-On Crafting: Participants engaged in soap-making with local herbs, capturing the essence of Cyprus’s natural resources, while a traditional Cypriot breakfast rounded out the immersive cultural experience.
