Exploring Cyprus: A Journey Through Culture
From cultural history to hands-on heritage activities, the KA1 Exploring Cyprus: A Journey Through Culture and Heritage. The Europass Teachers Academy, in collaboration with Emphasys Centre, offered participants an unforgettable experience of Cypriot life and identity.
Between the 20th-25th of October 2025 the participants explored the island’s landmarks, unique traditions, and ancient heritage through a combination of interactive and educational experiences.
Course highlights included:
- Cultural and Historical Landmarks: Participants visited Paphos and Nicosia, exploring landmarks like Petra tou Romiou (Aphrodite’s Rock), the Tombs of the Kings, Paphos Castle, the city’s famous mosaics, the Cyprus National Museum as well as the Leventeio Museum in the heart of the old town of the last divided capital in Europe—each stop offering insights into the island’s rich past and mythology.
- Wine and Culinary Traditions: In Omodos Village, known for its wine routes and the historic Monastery of the Holy Cross, the group sampled local wines—including the famous Commandaria—and enjoyed a traditional Cypriot meal, learning how geography has shaped Cyprus’s food culture.
- Cultural Identity and Exchange: A session on European identities sparked meaningful discussion around cultural similarities and differences. Participants shared insights from their home countries and explored what connects European communities.
- Hands-On Heritage: From making herbal soap with local ingredients to enjoying a traditional Cypriot breakfast, participants had the chance to engage with local crafts and customs in a truly immersive way.
